“Stentorian caterwauling” – the best slander ever against the bagpipes

I found this gem in a February 5 story in SanDiego.com. The article is written by Christian Hertzog about the local early music society. Hertzog may well have invented the most professorial maligning of the bagpipes ever written.

“Listeners anticipating stentorian caterwauling from the bagpipes were surprised at how well behaved they could be, and what a delightful, pleasant tone could be coaxed from them.”

I think the only person surprised at the well behaved and pleasantly-toned bagpipes was the sesquipedalian scribe.

Boise Highlanders Pipe Band

On other interesting notes emanating from the World Wide Web; follow the link to this fairly well written article about the Boise Highlanders Pipe Band, Idaho’s oldest and largest pipe band (of 10 bands state-wide) which appeared on the website IdahoStatesman.com on February 6. The band is celebrating its 50ieth anniversary this year. Congratulations.
