The weather looks good for Friday. Sunshine and if you can believe it, double digit temperatures. Well, we certainly deserve it.
It’s been a tough winter on the west coast. Fall came in November and I don’t think we have seen the sun since. We’ve seen lots of snow – in late February and March. And as I write this, there is still snow melting in my driveway and yard. And it’s been cold. Not freezing, but cold enough that there has been no bagpiping outside like previous years. In fact, I remember working up a sweat in the January sun playing for a memorial in Surrey and a Celebration of Life on one of the Gulf Islands. The good ol’days!
I will be at it again this year, as usual, inside and outside The Blarney Stone in Vancouver’s Gastown. This is the 50th year for a St. Patrick’s Day party at this venerable Vancouver Irish pub. Catch me on and off between 11:30 and 3:30, inside the pub and out on the street, then it’s off to the Great Canadian Brew House in Richmond and maybe a pub or two in White Rock. Ah spring! It’s about darn time you arrived. Bring on the jigs, reels, hornpipes and happier times!
