I think it was inevitable.
I have now officially become the bagpiper for the Atlantic Trap and Gill, on Beatty Street in Vancouver, BC.
I think I can handle the responsibilities.
Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting the manager of the T&G, Ginger Tchidas. She runs one of Vancouver’s great spots for lively entertainment and of course, a meeting place for displaced Atlantic Canadians (like myself) who need a dose of Maritime music, beer and cheer.
After a long day at the CBC nearby, there’s nothing quite like dropping in to the T&G for a pint of Olands, Schooner, Keiths or some of the other fine Maritime ales, like Moosehead. And it’s also a chance to meet up with fellow Maritimer’s and Newfoundlander’s, far away from home during the best time of the year.
I will be performing at the T&G beach volleyball party in the parking lot on August 28th. Teams are welcome, or just come down for a listen, a bit of craic and some tasty beverages. And don’t forget to buy drinks for the piper! That’s a Maritime tradition, don’t you know.
I have no doubt that there will be many more fine occasions to don the kilt, tune the bagpipes and let Vancouver know what it’s really like to have a ceilidh.
So, for those folks who can’t make it to the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland, or have an unnatural urge for an Oland’s Export, then you know where to find it.
